Sophocles Papas taught the classical guitar in Washington D.C. for nearly 60
years, and made the city a centre of guitar activity in the United States.
This biography provides details about his early years in Greece, his
beginning work with the guitar, his establishment of the Columbia Music
Company, devoted solely to Guitar music and still in existence, his
connection with Andres Segovia and their extensive correspondance with Carl
Sandburg, and his many guitar friends and students, such as Charlie Byrd.
